Tour Detail

Take on a moderately difficult trek to the mountain pass of Goechala, and be rewarded with views of Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain peak in the world. For 10 days in the invigorating, snowy interiors of Sikkim, you'll climb higher altitudes beginning from Yuksom at 5,840 ft to the Goechala Pass at 16,200 ft. To get here, you'll enter the Kanchenjunga National Park and make your way across steep trails surrounded by green meadows, trees of rhododendron and misty mountain views of Mt. Padim, Kabru, Nasing and many more.

On the summit day, you'll trek to Dzongri top in the wee hours of dawn and arrive just in time to catch a heavenly sunrise.

NOTE: A minimum of 4 travellers are required to book this trek to Goechala Pass.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Goechala Trek: Drive from Darjeeling to Yuksom

Arrive in Darjeeling and Meet Your Trek Leader. Today's Journey Begins as You Board a Private, Shared Suv and Travel from Darjeeling to Yuksom. After An 6-7 Hr Drive with Scenes of Tall Mountains Rushing Past, You'll Arrive At the Town of Yuksom. Overnight At Yuksom in Hotel.

Day 2: Goechala Trek: Yuksom to Tshoka

The first day of the trek will take you from Yuksom to Tshoka. For a distance of 10 kms, you'll make your way through an increasingly uphill trail. Passing several small huts en route to Tshoka, the trail will often pass alongside the Rathong River. In the last stretch of the trek, you'll enter the Kanchenjunga National Park and arrive at Tshoka. Overnight at Tshoka in tents.

Day 3: Goechala trek: Tshoka to Dzongri

Today's journey will take you Dzongri. Stretching for 9 kms, the trail is divided in the middle by the village of Phedang. Starting with rocky terrain, the trail continues going uphill and changes to a paved path of wooden logs. Decorated by waving Buddhist prayer flags at regular intervals, the trail offers scintillating views of surrounding hills. In the second half of the trek, you'll climb over some steep slopes, with vast meadows and fields after every strenuous patch. You'll reach your destination by evening. Overnight at Dzongri in tents.

Day 4: Goechala Trek: Day At Dzongri.

Take a Break from Trekking and Rest At Your Campsite in Dzongri. This Will Give Your Body a Chance to Acclimatize to Dzongri's High Altitude Climate. You Can Spend the Day Relaxing in Your Tents or Taking Short Walks Around the Campsite to Explore Nearby Trails. A Cloudless Day At the Campsite Offers Views of Several Famous Mountain Peaks from the Magnificent Kanchenjunga to the Equally Imposing Mt. Pandim. Keep Yourself Hydrated, have Regular Meals and Avoid Too Much Exertion to Help Your Body Acclimatize. Overnight At Dzongri in Tents.

Day 5: Goechala trek: Dzongri to Thangsing

Resume trekking with a relatively easy hike to Thangsing. The 8-km trail consists primarily of trekking across lush meadows peppered with rhododendron plantations. After a 5-hr trek, you'll arrive at Thangsing and set up camp at one of the several open meadows near the village. Make sure to carry proper apparel to cover yourself from the afternoon sun. Overnight at Thangsing in tents.

Day 6: Goechala trek: Thangsing to Lamuney

Today's journey will take you to the camping grounds of Lamuney. This will be the easiest trek of the trip, since the rough, uphill patches of the trail will often be punctuated with easy descent across vast pastures on both sides of the trail. The strenuous parts of the trail involve climbing over steep slopes, littered with boulders and stones. After arriving at Lamuney, you can spend the rest of the day at leisure, or elect to visit the nearby Samiti Lake. A short 2-km trek, you'll make a quick day trip from Lamuney and spend some time on the banks of the high-altitude lake. Return back to camp by evening. Overnight at Lamuney in tents.

Day 7: Goechala trek: Lamuney to Thangsing via Goechala Pass

The most awaited day of the trip, today's trek will finally take you to the promised land of Goechala Pass! You'll wake up a little after midnight and begin your ascent to Goechala. As you approach your destination on a moderately difficult trail, you'll witness the rising sun slowly illuminating the Himalayan sky and the several snow-capped peaks around Goechala. Take some time to admire the breathtaking views of mountain peaks like the Kabru South, Kabru North, Kabru Dome, the Kanchenjunga, Gocha Jupano, Pandim, Sinvo and many more. Begin the return trek from the pass. Making at pit stop at Lamuney, you'll continue the descent to arrive at Thangsing.

Day 8: Goechala trek: Thangsing to Tshoka

Continue the descent and trek from Thangsing to all the way back to Tshoka. En route, you can make a pit stop at the Dzongri and Phedang to rest. Encounter beautiful sights of the rhododendron forests and meadows with clusters of small huts and houses. Overnight at Tshoka in tents.

Day 9: Goechala trek: Tshoka to Yuksom

Marking the final day of the trek, you'll make your way back to Yuksom. A long day of downhill trekking, today's trek will take you across scenic hillocks with small hamlets of not more than a few houses as well as prominent villages such as Bakhim and Sachen. Just before arriving at Yuksom, you'll cross three iron bridges, overlaid over river streams and valleys. You'll arrive at your destination by evening. Overnight at Yuksom in tents.

Day 10: Goechala trek: Drive from Yuksom to Darjeeling

Bid farewell to Sikkim, board vehicles and travel back to Darjeeling. You'll arrive back in town by evening. Your trip ends here.
